Are there Any Gogo Bars in Chaing Mai?
Gogo bars are all over Bangkok, Pattaya, and the Bangla Road area of Phuket. Are there also gogo bars in Chiang Mai?
Unfortunately, there are no longer gogo bars in Chiang Mai. Years ago, before covid, Chiang Mai had some really good gogos (the Foxy Lady, Spotlight, etc.). However, since then, the city decided to clean up its image and make Chiang Mai a permier tourist location for family hordes.
Disappointing as all of this is for you rowdies out there, here are some alternatives:
Zoe in Yellow
Zoe in Yellow is the best outdoor bar complex in Chiang Mai.
The complex actually contains over ten bars, with Zoe in Yellow as the main attraction, with a semi-outdoor dance space and a lot of seating in the back. It is fun to wander around the zoe street lined with bars and check out the various side venues, like the Havana. The crowd is a mixture of tourists, Thai students, and freelance girls.
If you are looking for hot students and freelance girls, Zoe’s is not a bad option. Although it does not offer the same gogo experience of complexes like Nana Plaza in Bangkok, it is one of the most energetic, fun nightlife experiences to be had in the North of Thailand.
The Spicy Nightclub
The Spicy is a nightclub located on the eastern edge of the old town moat road.
It gets busy at around 1 am and is a full party for about an hour or two. The normal migration pattern is to start at Zoe’s and move over to Spicy, and then if you want to go late, end up at a dive bar in the Loi Kroh area.
The music at the Spicy isn’t for everyone and the space is small and cramped for what it is. But it is still a fun place to go to, especially if you like to people watch.
It also has a reputation for being a meat market and is relatively easy to meet and pick up girls. However, one problem with the space is that everyone is visible to everyone, so the girls are sometimes shy and are more guarded. Similar to Zoe’s, the crowd is a mixture of tourists, Thai and foreign students, and freelance girls.
Loi Kroh Road
Loi Kroh is the red light street of Chiang Mai. It is a small two-way soi that extends eastward from the old town area just south of the East Gate.
Loi Kroh’s heyday is now buried in the past and it has an almost deserted feel to it compared to the night bazaar area situated behind it. While there are strictly speaking no gogo bars on the street, Loi Kroh is lined with bars and massage shops.
The girls who work at the shops stand at the bar entrances calling out to guys as they pass. The mood of the area wavers between sad and funny. Every so often, you can find an attractive girl in her 20’s but the vast majority of the girls are 30’s and up.
